LAREDO (CN) - A U.S. citizen pleaded guilty to trying to smuggle ammunition into Mexico after a random search by border agents discovered 282 bullets, three pistol magazines and eight assault rifle magazines hidden in a secret compartment in his SUV, federal prosecutors said.
Raul Alvarez, a 29-year-old strip club manager in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, faces up to 10 years in prison and fines of $250,000, according to U.S. Attorney's Office.
Agents searched Alvarez's vehicle at an international bridge, and found the ammunition cache in the cavity of a rear passenger speaker, authorities said.
