Man Sues Amber Frey Over Book & Movie Deal

FRESNO, Calif. (CN) - A Fresno man claims that Amber Frey, who became famous as a former girlfriend of convicted wife-killer Scott Peterson, reneged on a deal to promote their co-written book, "Memoirs of a Sex Addict," and screenplay, "Myths of the Flesh."

In a Superior Court complaint, Pedro Reynosa claims that he and Frey "struck up a friendship in the year 2009, and during the course of said friendship, wrote a book and screenplay together."

He claims that Frey agreed, in an Aug. 20, 2009 contract, to give him 35 percent interest in the book and its movie rights, and 50 percent interest in the screenplay.

It is unclear from the 4-page complaint whether the works purport to be fiction or memoir, or a combination of both.

What is clear from the complaint is that since they were completed, Reynosa says Frey has been distancing herself from them.

"Despite repeated demands, Amber Frey has not performed her obligations of the signed contract by refusing to credit her name on the book and the screenplay, and by refusing to authorize plaintiff to enter into any negotiations to market the book or screenplay with her name attached to either, which has resulted in a material and substantial breach of contract," Reynosa says in the complaint.

Frey, who dated Peterson in 2002, testified for the prosecution at his 2004 trial. Peterson was convicted of killing his pregnant wife, Laci, and their unborn child on Christmas Eve 2002 and disposing of their bodies in San Francisco Bay.

Peterson was sentenced to death by lethal injection and is on Death Row in San Quentin.

Frey has written a book about her experience: "Witness for the Prosecution of Scott Peterson." In February she appeared on the daytime talk show "The View" as part of a "Where Are They Now?" segment.

Reynosa seeks $250,000, alleging breach of contract and breach of faith and fair dealing.
