Man Sentenced for Bomb Scare at Animal Labs

SAN DIEGO (CN) - A man who threatened to blow up an animal laboratory at the University of California at San Diego was sentenced to 15 months in prison by a federal judge.

Richard Sills, 55, admitted that he was trying to disrupt animal research when he called in a bomb threat, stating that he had planted explosives in six campus buildings.

Sills also admitted to planting a fake bomb in the Leichtag Building, where the research takes place.

U.S. District Judge Larry Burns ordered Sills to serve 15 months in jail, followed by three years of supervised release. He must also pay a $10,419 fine.
