LOS ANGELES (CN) - A man who paid almost $1,800 in 1989 to buy the burial plot next to his father's grave has accused the cemetery of selling the plot since his mother's death last December, allowing a stranger to be buried next to his father.
According to a complaint in Superior Court, workers at the Calvary Cemetery & Mausoleum told Carlos Hale that he "should just agree to have Maria Hale buried in a separate and undesirable location of the cemetery."
Hale claims that the cemetery, run by the LA Catholic Archbishop, never intended to save the burial plot for his mother, but sold it to him anyway. He says the cemetery's actions violated public health codes that require detailed records of plot assignments and sales.
Hale is represented by Stephen Danz.
