Man Says Cadaver Implant Was Unsafe

CINCINNATI (CN) - AlloSource, U.S. Tissue & Cell, and Donor Referral Services disregarded their own safety procedures and caused possibly unsafe tissue from a cadaver to beimplanted into Kevin Arnett, Arnett claims in Federal Court.

He says DRS owner and founder Philip Guyett was the root of it, "harvesting tissue and bones from human bodies that were improperly obtained from various funeral homes," and selling them to the other defendants.

Arnett claims Guyett and DRS failed to create or maintain records, including whether the cadavers, when alive, had had cancer, HIV, or other infections diseases, or had taken drugs. He also claims they claimed to use stringent safety and sterility procedures on their cadavers and tissues, but did not. "As a result of Defendants' failures, there was nationwide distribution and implantation of approximately 300 allografts that have been recalled," and he got one of them during surgery at Mercy Clermont Hospital in Batavia, Ohio, on Feb. 28, 2006, Arnett says.
