Man Held For Alleged Threats to Fox’s O’Reilly

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (CN) - A man who allegedly threatened to kill Fox News personality Bill O'Reilly is being held by the Madison County Sheriff's Department on a $150,000 bond.

Police say James Rogers, 62, of Troy, Ill., did not speak with the victim, but left a message threatening to kill the victim and his family on Jan. 26. Though Madison County State's Attorney Tom Gibbons refused to confirm whether the target was O'Reilly, the Madison County Record reports that court documents show that O'Reilly was a target.

Rogers was charged with the felony of harassment by telephone. The Madison County Sheriff's Department heard about the threats on Jan. 31, contacted Rogers at his home and took him in without incident, according to a department news release.

The sheriff's department is also investigating another report of a threat made by Rogers to U.S. Congressman John Shimkus, R-IL.

Madison County Circuit Judge Richard Tognarelli has ordered additional bail bond conditions for Rogers including that he is not to harass, intimidate or interfere with the personal liberty of and to stay at least 500 feet of O'Reilly and this family. Rogers is also to abide by the same conditions with Shimkus and he was ordered to be evaluated for fitness to stand trial by a psychologist.
