EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (CN) - A man who threatened to kill Fox TV star Bill O'Reilly was sentenced to a year of probation and fined $500.
James Rogers, 62, of Troy, Ill., was charged in February with felony harassment by telephone for allegedly making the threats on Jan. 26.
Prosecutors said Rogers left a threatening message for O'Reilly, but never talked to him.
At the time, the Madison County Sheriff's department was investigating whether Rogers had threatened Congressman John Shimkus, an Illinois Republican.
Madison County Circuit Judge Richard Tognarelli ordered Rogers not to "harass, intimidate or interfere" with O'Reilly, Shimkus and their families.
He also ordered him to undergo psychological examination and to stay 500 feet away from the Fox News headquarters at all times.
Troy is 20 miles northeast of St. Louis.
