CLAYTON, Mo. (CN) - A man who pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the death of a lawyer was sentenced to 15 years in prison. Haze Shumpert, 32, was the former boyfriend of Amy Kramer, who was found in her living room in November 2006. Shumpert admitted he knocked her down repeatedly and hit her in the throat.
Shumpert, who is 6-foot-6 and 305 pounds, claimed that Kramer had attacked him.
He apologized to Kramer's family during sentencing in St. Louis County Court. Kramer was an attorney in the St. Louis office of Polsinelli, Shalton, Welte and Suelthaus, which is based in Kansas City. She received her law degree from Washington University.
