Man Arrested in|Times Square Case

MANHATTAN (CN) - A naturalized U.S. citizen from Pakistan, suspected of driving a fizzled car bomb to Times Square, was arrested late Monday night at JFK Airport as he tried to board a flight to Dubai, federal officials said.

Faisal Shahzad, 30, is believed to have bought the Nissan Pathfinder three weeks ago, stuffed it with propane, gasoline, fertilizer, firecrackers and a homemade fuse and abandoned it Saturday night off Times Square.

"It's clear that the intent behind this terrorist act was to kill Americans," Attorney General Eric Holder said.

"This investigation is ongoing, it is multi-faceted, and it is aggressive," Holder said.

"Because of the fast-moving nature of this investigation, I am not able to make any further information public at this time," Holder added. "But the American people should know that we are deploying every resource available, and we will not rest until we have brought everyone responsible to justice."

U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said Shahzad will appear in Manhattan Federal Court on Wednesday to face formal charges. He did not release any further details.
