Maine secures TRO against Title IX funding freeze

BANGOR, Maine — A federal court in Maine granted the state’s request for a temporary restraining order against the Department of Agriculture, which froze more than $97,000 in administrative funds and over $374,000 in state operating expenses over Maine’s refusal to ban trans women from playing in women’s sports at school. Maine has shown it is likely to succeed in arguing that the feds did not follow the required processes before freezing state funding.
