Maguire Daisy Back From|the Brink, Says Agency

WASHINGTON (CN) - The Maguire daisy, once so close to extinction that only seven plants were known to exist, has rebounded with more than 163,000 individual plants in 10 different populations across southeastern Utah, according to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

The agency has announced it will remove the daisy from the federal List of Endangered and Threatened Plants.

The daisy is the 21st species to be delisted due to recovery, and the agency credits a 25 year conservation plan involving several federal agencies with saving the daisy. All but one percent of the daisies grow on federal lands. The agency will monitor the status of the daisy annually for the next ten years including collecting information on population trends and potential threats.
