Kirkland & Ellis partner Alexander MacKinnon was sworn in Monday as a new magistrate judge in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles.
MacKinnon focused on patent infringement cases in his trial and appellate practice at the Kirkland firm, a top national firm with roughly 1,500 lawyers and revenue of almost $2 billion in 2012.
MacKinnon graduated from the University of Michigan Law School in 1981 after earning a bachelor's degree in engineering, also from the University of Michigan.
