Lurid Suit Against ‘X-Men’ Helmer Dropped

(CN) - The former teen actor who accused "X-Men" director Bryan Singer of sexual assault dropped his lawsuit in Hawaii Federal Court.

Michael Egan III sued Singer on April 16, alleging intentional infliction of emotional distress, battery, assault, and invasion of privacy by unreasonable intrusion.

Singer denied he was part of a "sordid sex ring" that Egan claimed had sexually abused teenage male actors and models in the 1990s. Egan said Singer abused him during trips to Hawaii in 1999, when he was 17.

Singer has called the allegations "outrageous, vicious and completely false" and accused Egan of a "sick twisted shakedown."

Egan also sued Hollywood executives David Neuman, Gary Goddard, and Garth Ancier in separate filings in the same court. He later filed similar complaints against three anonymous defendants in Los Angeles Federal Court. All the claims have since been dismissed.

In an Aug. 27 order, U.S. District Judge Susan Oki Mollway granted Egan's motion to voluntarily dismiss his lawsuit, but said he could refile. Egan moved to dismiss after his former attorneys Jeff Herman and Mark Gallagher withdrew from the case in July.

Mollway denied Singer's request for attorneys' fees and costs, and said Singer did not demonstrate that the damage to his reputation "constitutes plain legal prejudice," according to the order.
