Luis Lavin Appointed to Appeals Court

SACRAMENTO (CN) - Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Luis Lavin has been appointed to the Second District Court of Appeal.

Lavin, 56, was appointed Friday to Division Three of the state appellate court, which sits in Los Angeles.

Lavin has been on the L.A. Superior Court bench since 2001. He was general counsel at Los Angeles City Ethics Commission from 1999 to 2001 and was a trial attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice from 1995 to 1999.

Lavin was associate general counsel for the Directors Guild of America from 1992 to 1995 and an assistant attorney general for Massachusetts from 1990 to 1992.

He was in private practice from 1985 to 1990, after getting his law degree from Harvard Law School and a bachelor's degree from Cornell University.

Lavin fills the vacancy created by the death of Justice H. Walter Croskey. Gov. Jerry Brown's Office announced his appointment Friday. It requires confirmation from the Commission on Judicial Appointments.

The job pays $211,260.
