Longtime Court Clerk Retires

MOUNT VERNON, Ill. (CN) - Louis E. Costa will retire as clerk of the Fifth District Appellate Court on June 30 after more than 20 years in the job. Costa plans to go into private practice with his wife, Sharon.

Costa has spent his entire career at the appellate court in Mount Vernon. Costa, who earned his law degree from Southern Illinois University, served as a clerk for Judges Charles E. Jones and George Kasserman Jr. from 1978 to 1981, then as a court administrator, and was appointed clerk in 1998.

John J. Flood, a staff attorney for the court since 1984, will succeed Costa. The Fifth Judicial District serves 37 counties in Southern Illinois.
