ORLANDO (CN) - Orange County, Fla. Clerk of Court Lydia Gardner lost her battle with breast cancer early Thursday in a Winter Park, Fla. hospital.
Gardner, 68, was first elected in 2000 and was sworn in for her fourth term in January.
"Her shoes will be very hard to fill. I will miss her charming smile and unflappable good humor," Orange-Osceola State Attorney Jeff Ashton said in a statement.
Gov. Rick Scott will appoint someone to finish her term. Chief Judge Belvin Perry named Gardner's chief administrative officer Colleen Reilly, as interim clerk.
