Logging Challenged In Los Padres Forest

LOS ANGELES (CN) – The U.S. Forest Service authorization of commercial logging on 1,000 acres of Los Padres National Forest is illegal, and “nearly without precedent” in that forest, Los Padres Forestwatch claims in Federal Court. The Forestwatch group says the government gave away “large, commercially valuable trees” to lumber companies and misrepresented the deal as “salvage logging” from the 2006 Day Fire, allowing operations in a fire-devastated land that will exacerbate the ruin.
