Live Vaccines

It's time for your flu shot. Aren't you glad there aren't extra bugs in there? Drug companies used to have to use a whole building to process each live vaccine. But, advances in cleanroom technology have made it so microorganisms can be contained in individual parts of a building, and the Food and Drug Administration has changed its live vaccine regulations accordingly.

New regulations allow more than one live virus to be processed in a single building so long as the company follows new FDA containment rules. One such rule prohibits testing of the virus or vaccine using any other microorganism, within the contained manufacturing area. Click here for details and other new regulations, including one on new model rules for manufactured home installation.
