PHILADELPHIA (CN) - Zippers are in the news. Harris Manufacturing Co. claims YKK leads an illegal zipper cartel that fixes prices and restricts competition, in a federal class-action antitrust claim. A similar federal class-action antitrust complaint has been filed in Manhattan.
In the Philadelphia complaint, Harris claims the European Commission fined YKK and its co-conspirators $458 million on Sept. 19 for their illegal, worldwide zipper cartel in the "fasteners and attaching machines market." Defendants in this suit are YKK Corp., YKK Corp. of America, YKK Snap Fasteners America, William Prym GMBH & Co., Prym Fashion Inc., and Prym Consumer USA.
The class-action antitrust complaint in Manhattan names these defendants: William Prym GmbH & Co., Prym Consumer USA, Prym Fashion, Coats PLC, Coats North America de Republica Domincana, YKK Corp., YKK Corp. of America, YKK (USA), YKK Snap Fasteners America, and Scovill Fasteners.
