Lesbian Sues for Right to Wear Tux at Prom

INDIANAPOLIS (CN) - A lesbian student has sued Lebanon Community High School for the right to wear a tuxedo to the prom, claiming the school's policy requiring all female students to wear dresses violates the First Amendment. The student, identified only as A.S., claims the policy constitutes gender discrimination in violation of the equal protection clause of the 14th Amendment.

She adds that it also violates federal law, because her school receives federal money.

Kenneth Falk of the ACLU of Indiana is representing her in Federal Court.
