Lender Says Liberace Foundation Owes $1.9M

LAS VEGAS (CN) - The Liberace Foundation for the Performing and Create Arts defaulted on a $1.9 million loan, US Bank claims in Clark County Court.

The bank says the foundation, which was funded by the now-shuttered Liberace Museum, made monthly payments on the loan from May 2000 to February 2012, when it allegedly defaulted.

Liberace himself opened the museum in 1979 to house his costumes, cars, jewelry and pianos. It closed in October 2010.

A movie about Liberace, starring Michael Douglas and Matt Damon, is set to air in 2013. It focuses on the personal relationship between Liberace, who died of AIDS in 1987, and his younger lover, who in 1982 sued the performer for $113 million in palimony and won a $95,000 settlement.

US Bank is represented by Abran Vigil with Ballard Spahr.
