LAX Shooting Suspect|Charged With Murder

LOS ANGELES (CN) - A federal grand jury Tuesday charged the suspected LAX Airport shooter with first-degree murder, in an 11-count indictment.

Paul Anthony Ciancia is charged with the first-degree murder of Transportation Security Administration Officer Gerardo Hernandez.

Ciancia, 23, also is charged with the attempted murders of TSA Officers Tony Grigsby and James Speer, whom he shot, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.

He also is charged with shooting Brian Ludmer, a civilian.

The indictment supersedes the criminal complaint filed shortly after the Nov. 1 rampage.

Ciancia is to be arraigned on the charges the day after Christmas.

The three charges involving the killing of Hernandez - first-degree murder, violence at an international airport resulting in death, and using a firearm to murder - are each punishable by up to life in federal prison or death. The indictment includes allegations that would support death, including premeditation and murder of the federal officer.
