CHICAGO (CN) – An attorney claims the Cook County Sheriff’s Office waited 11 months to execute an arrest warrant against her, and arrested her in court, in front of her client, who fired her. Ann McNamara also sued the attorney who obtained the arrest warrant, and cites a state law that protects attorneys from being arrested in court.
McNamara claims that Joel Handler, the attorney who obtained the arrest warrant against her, knew of the state law, and so did the sheriff and his officers. She demands damages for illegal arrest, conspiracy, interference with business relations, emotional distress and abuse of process.
The complaint does not specify why the warrant was issued, other than to say that Handler got it in re: Joel Handler as assignee of Mark McNabola v. Ana McNamara.
