Last-Minute Lawsuit In Nevada Race

LAS VEGAS (CN) - State Sen. Bob Beers claims his opponent libeled him in attack ads that falsely claim Beers is under review the Nevada Ethics Commission. In his lawsuit in Clark County Court, Beers, a Republican, called Allison Copening's ads a "pitiful attempt to sway the election during the last few pivotal days of campaigning."

Beers says Copening and the state Democratic Party sent out thousands of 2-page fliers in the last four days of campaigning that falsely indicated that Beers was "Under Ethics Commission Review" for his actions as a senatorial candidate.

Beers says he was never under investigation by the commission.

He says Copening "made up an entirely fabricated story that was the product of her imagination."

Beers seeks damages and attorney's fees. He is represented by Craig Mueller with Mueller Hinds.
