CLAYTON, MO. (CN) - Owners of a farmhouse and barn built in 1860 sued the City of Portage de Sioux to prevent demolition of the structures, which they say were where the Teton Sioux and Kickapoo tribes signed a peace treaty, and where Sioux Chief Black Buffalo and other Teton Sioux are buried.
Klaus Lambert and Constance Alt claim the Missouri Historic Preservation Office wants the site preserved, and they and the state want it placed on the national list of historic places. They claim the City has "demonstrated ill motive and malice" by demanding demolition anyway, within 30 days.
Plaintiffs demand a restraining order and injunction. They are represented in St. Louis County Court by John Kress of St. Louis.
