Labor Racketeering Alleged In Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES (CN) - A federal class-action RICO complaint claims Industrial Professional and Technical Workers and Brinderson Construction forced workers to join the IPTW, a putative labor organization, "to avoid further liability for a (pending) class action lawsuit," and to help Brinderson duck its obligations to pay overtime. The class includes workers at oil refineries and power plants who were forced to join the IPTW since 2005. Another federal class-action accuses Brinderson, Chevron, ExxonMobil, ConocoPhillips, Shell, BP and others of violating labor laws.
