L.A. Fights ‘Supergraphic’ Signs

(CN) - The City of Los Angeles office wants to put a stop to so-called supergraphic signs: huge billboards affixed to tall buildings, which often cover windows. The city says the signs are "unpermitted, unsafe and prohibited."

In its Superior Court complaint, the city claims the signs distract drivers, add to the city's "visual clutter," and prevent firefighters from entering buildings through windows during rescue operations, among other things.

The city sued advertisers that lease space on buildings, and property owners who lease space to them.

Here are the defendants: World Wide Mediacom, World Wide Rush, Yamit Enterprises, Citywide Pete, Mediacom, Barry Rush, Leslye Rush, Peter Zackery, Scott Krantz, MD Graphic Installers, Mark Denny, Passco Hughes Promenade, Hughes Promenade, SM III Sepulveda Center, Shurgard California Properties, Davis Group Realty, Douglas Emmett 1996, VDA Property Company, UTF Enterprises, Wilshire Real Estate Holdings, Overland Investment Company, Frank Rahban, 8200 Wilshire K2, 8200 Wilshire Development, Novian Family Partnership and La Brea Collection.

The 103-page complaint contains 26 causes of action.

The city wants the signs declared nuisances, and removed.
