BELLEVILLE, Ill. (CN) - Excessive punishment in kindergarten left him emotionally scarred, a man claims in St. Clair County Court.
In his pro se case, Randall Bishop says he was punished because his mother, a bus driver for the Dupo Community School District, had to remove him from class 15 minutes early because of child-care issues. Bishop claims the punishments ranged from standing against the wall at recess to being locked in the library without access to food or a bathroom all day, forcing him to wet his pants.
He claims Dupo was negligent in hiring the principal at Dupo Grade School, whom he claims was responsible behind the discipline and who allegedly had been accused of sexual harassment and physical abuse at a previous job. Bishop claims he had to repeat kindergarten and suffered from lack of confidence, low self-esteem and emotional, psychological and physical damage. He wants $900,000 in damages.
