Kevin Brazile Selected as Next LA County Presiding Judge

Los Angeles County Superior Court judges on Thursday said they’ve elected Assistant Presiding Judge Kevin C. Brazile as presiding judge and Judge Eric C. Taylor to serve as assistant presiding judge.

LOS ANGELES (CN) – Los Angeles County Superior Court judges on Thursday said they’ve elected Assistant Presiding Judge Kevin C. Brazile as presiding judge and Judge Eric C. Taylor to serve as assistant presiding judge.

The court’s current presiding judge, Daniel J. Buckley, announced the results of elections for the 2019-2020 term, which begins Jan 1.

A Gov. Gray Davis appointee in 2003, Brazile previously served as supervising judge of the court’s civil departments and managed civil cases throughout Los Angeles County.

Prior to his appointment, Brazile was deputy county counsel for LA County, served as division chief of the general litigation division and argued cases before the U.S. Supreme Court, the Ninth Circuit and the California Courts of Appeal.

Before moving to the Stanley Mosk Courthouse in downtown LA in 2007 to hear unlimited civil trials, Brazile was the site judge at the court’s West Covina branch.

Brazile has served on the California Judges Association Foundation, California Judges Association and Judicial Council of California’s Civil and Smalls Claims Advisory Committee. He currently serves on the Judicial Council’s Advisory Committee on Providing Access and Fairness.

After earning law degrees from the University of California, Los Angeles, Brazile was admitted to the California State Bar in June 1984.

Judge Taylor was appointed to the Inglewood Municipal Court in 1998, where he served as presiding judge prior to trial court unification. Later, he was appointed as superior court site judge for the Inglewood branch.

Taylor served as supervising judge of the Southwest District in 2002-2003 and was elected to the Superior Court Executive Committee in 2011.

The California Judges Association elected Taylor president of its board in 2003, where he served for two years while also acting as an advisory member of the Judicial Council.

Chief Justice Ronald M. George appointed Taylor to the 2000-03 term for the Council’s Access and Fairness Committee.

Prior to the bench, Taylor served as a deputy county counsel for LA County, served as an extern to California Supreme Court Justice Allen E. Broussard and practiced as a litigation associate at Sonnenschein, Nath and Rosenthal.

Taylor earned a law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law and serves as an adjunct communications professor at Loyola Marymount University.
