Kenyan Man Sentenced to 15 Years for Terror Aid

(CN) - A federal judge in Miami ordered a 15-year-prison sentence for a Kenyan who helped three terrorist organizations, one of which was al-Qaida.

Mohamed Hussain Said, 27, of Nairobi, also worked with al-Qaida in Iraq/al-Nusrah Front in Syria and al-Shabaab in Somalia, according to a statement Friday from the Justice Department.

"During the conspiracy, Said received a series of wire transfers from co-conspirator Gufran Ahmed Mohammed for the purpose of supporting al-Shabaab, and recruited experienced al-Shabaab fighters for AQI/al-Nusrah Front to fight in the conflict in Syria," the statement continues. "Additionally, Said tried to recruit other individuals for attacks within the United States."

Said pleaded guilty this past May to the first count of an indictment.

U.S. District Judge Ursula Ungaro handed down the sentence.
