Kentucky Deer Ban Is Illegal, Group Says

FRANKFORT, KY. (CN) - The State of Kentucky is unconstitutionally prohibiting the transportation of live deer through the state for delivery elsewhere, the North American Deer Farmers Association claims in Federal Court. Kentucky instituted the ban in 2006 to fight chronic wasting disease. But Association members say their captive-bred are disease-free; that the ban is nonsensical because Kentucky allows importation of deer meat, which can carry the chronic wasting pathogens; and that the state law violates the Commerce Clause. See complaint.
