Kentucky AG Wants Prison Releases Enjoined

FRANKFORT, KY. (CN) - Kentucky's attorney general sued its Department of Corrections to stop it from freeing inmates under an early release program. The attorney general says Kentucky's House Bill 406 was not meant to be applied retroactively, and that the prison commissioner is not distinguishing between violent and nonviolent offenders, as intended.

Attorney General Jack Conway sued prison Commissioner Ladonna Thompson in Franklin County Court. He says she's wrongfully released 2,000 people already, and plans to let loose another 1,500 by the end of the year. Conway says the early-release program under HB 406 was not meant to be allied retroactively.
