Kelly, Bolton Said to Have Major Falling Out Over Immigration

President Donald Trump’s chief of staff and his national security adviser are reported to have gotten into a profanity-laced argument outside the Oval Office on Thursday, though the president later told reporters he knew nothing about it.

(CN) - President Donald Trump’s chief of staff and his national security adviser are reported to have gotten into a profanity-laced argument outside the Oval Office on Thursday, though the president later told reporters he knew nothing about it.

Bloomberg was the first to report the argument, which is stirring speculation that Chief of Staff John Kelly may soon be leaving the White House.

According to the report, Kelly and National Security Adviser John Bolton argued over immigration and efforts to secure the U.S. border with Mexico. During the argument, the two men are also said to have clashed over the performance of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen.

Nielsen is a former Kelly deputy.

Bolton is said to harshly criticized the performance of DHS, while Kelly defended Nielsen.

Though Trump insisted he knew nothing about the incident Thursday afternoon, the Bloomberg report says the president not only knew of the clash, but participated in it, ultimately siding with Bolton.

Witnesses, who were not named in the article, told Bloomberg the argument became so intense that staffers feared both men would resign.
