Karuk Woman Failed |To Prove Aboriginal Title

SAN FRANCISCO (CN) - A Karuk woman who built her house on ancestral lands owned by the U.S. Forest Service bears the burden of proving her aboriginal title, the 9th Circuit ruled. Defendant Karen Lowry built a home in the Oak Bottom area of the Klamath National Forest in northern California, but failed to meet the burden of proving her aboriginal title as a Karuk Indian.
