MANHATTAN (CN) - Kanye West's attorneys today continued to seek the identities of two operators of the wannabe virtual currency site Coinye, a day after the site said it would pull the plug.
West sued the anonymous operators of the Bitcoinlike site on Wednesday, claiming they used his name, image and trademarks and blew off a cease-and-desist letter from his attorneys.
In his federal lawsuit, West claimed the defendants acted in bad faith to cash in on his popularity without his permission.
Shortly after the lawsuit was filed, Coinye announced on its website that it was dropping the endeavor, saying: "Coinye is dead. You win Kanye. Pool's closed."
West's attorneys, Dyan Finguerra-DuCharme and Ryan Klarberg, with Pryor Cashman, expressed skepticism Thursday that the site was actually closed.
On Thursday, they asked U.S. District Court Judge Analisa Torres to grant discovery to enable them to learn from the site's server the email addresses of at least two anonymous operators of the site.
"We are seeking an order that would expedite discovery in this case to ascertain the identities of the defendants," Finguerra-Ducharme said during the short proceeding.
Torres said she found "good cause" to grant the motion.
Neither the operators of the site nor West were present in court.
West's attorneys have indicated they intend to pursue whatever profits were realized before the site announced that it would shutter.
