SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (CN) - Kaiser doctors missed a woman's dangerous heart condition, which disabled her for life and ended the life of her unborn child, she and her husband claim in San Bernardino County Superior Court.
Georgina and Daniel Rodriguez sued Kaiser Foundation Hospitals, Southern California Permanente Medical Group and Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, as well as doctors Kathleen Wang and Amante Pullido for medical malpractice and loss of consortium related to Georgina's undiagnosed heart condition.
The couple received care for a planned pregnancy from Kaiser beginning in October 2010, becoming pregnant two months later, the complaint says. Prior to and during the course of Georgina's short-lived pregnancy, doctors Wang and Pullido "failed to diagnose and treat a serious heart condition that threatened Georgina's health and life, and the health and life of her fetus," according to the couple's complaint.
Additionally, the Kaiser doctors "failed to refer Georgina to a cardiologist for consultation, diagnosis and treatment; failed to perform tests appropriate to the diagnosis and treatment of her condition; and failed to warn Georgina that a future pregnancy [and] her serious heart condition could threaten her health and life, and the health and life of her fetus, in the event of any subsequent pregnancy," the complaint states.
The couple say their baby died in April 2012, and Kaiser doctors delivered it a month later. Additionally, as a result of the heart condition and pregnancy "Georgina has been rendered totally disabled for life," according to the complaint.
Richard Osborn and Blair Berkley of Osborn Law in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. represent the couple in their action.
