Kaiser Split Thumb Fixing Finger, Mom Says

SACRAMENTO (CN) - Kaiser will pay $30,000 on a claim of cutting open a boy's thumb when he went in for surgery on his finger, according to settlement paperwork filed Wednesday.

On behalf of her 8-year-old son, Israel Calderon, Nina Calderon has filed a petition to approve compromise of a disputed claim, in Sacramento County Superior Court.

Israel Calderon had gone to Kaiser South Valley Center Dec. 10, 2013 to have surgery on his finger, but the surgeon first cut open his thumb, according to the petition.

The boy had to have stitches to close up his additional incision.

The petitioner is represented by Eric J. Ratinoff and Marla C. Strain of Kershaw, Cutter & Ratinoff LLP.
