Kaiser Blamed for Urine Through Vagina

PORTLAND, Ore. (CN) - Urine leaked into a woman's vagina, among other problems caused by Kaiser's mistake during a hysterectomy, she claims in court.

Keysha L. Sanders sued Northwest Permanente, P.C. and Kaiser Foundation Hospitals for medical negligence, seeking $495,000 in economic and non-economic damages, court costs and a jury trial, in Multnomah County Circuit Court.

According to the complaint, Dr. Rachel G. Algenio and Dr. David Rice performed a laparoscopic hysterectomy and cystoscopy in January 2012. One or both doctors cut or cauterized her left ureter (a duct that carries urine from the kidneys to the bladder), Sanders says.

"As a direct result of defendants' negligence, plaintiff's left distal ureter, left kidney, left collecting system, and nerves to plaintiff's left leg were permanently injured. Plaintiff was required to seek emergency medical care for urine leaking into her vagina, extreme left flank pain and injuries to her left urinary collection system," her complaint states.

Sanders is represented by David K. Miller and Robert S. Wagner of Portland.
