WASHINGTON (CN) - The Supreme Court affirmed Monday a ruling that lets Mississippi lawmakers run in their current districts this year after the Legislature failed to pass a redistricting plan, to the chagrin of the NAACP.
After the Mississippi Legislature did not pass a 2011 redistricting plan, the State Conference of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People filed suit.
A three-judge panel of the Southern District of Mississippi ruled in May that the state must either immediately redraw district lines or let lawmakers run in their current districts this year.
The NAACP appealed the decision directly to the high court, but the justices have declined to intervene.
