Justice Souter Confirms Intent to Leave High Court

WASHINGTON (CN) - Justice David Souter sent a letter to President Barack Obama Friday announcing his retirement from the Supreme Court. The court said Souter plans to leave when the court takes its summer recess and intends to continue his service as an associate justice. Souter was appointed to the high court by President George H.W. Bush and took the oath on Oct. 9, 1990.
