SANTA ANA, Calif. (CN) - A woman claims the doctor who gave her a hysterectomy burned her name into her uterus "for no medically necessary purpose or reason, and in the process, injured and burned other portions of her body." The Superior Court complaint does not describe how the woman determined that the doctor had carved her name, Ingrid, into her uterus.
Ingrid Paulicivic and her husband sued Dr. Red Mateo Alinsod and South Coast Urogynecology in Orange County Court.
Paulicivic claims she underwent a "subtotal abdominal hysterectomy at the hands of defendant Red Mateo Alinsod, M.D., as the South Coast Medical Center" on June 12, 2009.
"During the course of the procedure, defendant Red Mateo Alinsod, M.D. used an electrocautery device to carve and burn the letters 'INGRID' in and on plaintiff Ingrid Paulicivic's uterus for no medically necessary purpose or reason and in the process, injured and burned other portions of her body," the complaint states.
Paulicivic says she has suffered "pain, physical disability, disfigurement, mental and emotional anxiety and disruption of the nervous system" because of the doctor's "despicable conduct."
The Paulicivices seek damages for medical negligence, battery and loss of consortium. They are represented by Devan Mullins of Irvine.
