DENVER (CN) - The judge in accused mass murderer James Holmes' case will hold a hearing Thursday to discuss how a jury will be selected for the high-profile case.
Holmes is charged with 166 felony counts, including first-degree and attempted murder for the 2012 shootings at a movie theater in Aurora, Colo. Twelve people died and more than 50 were wounded at the midnight premier of a Batman movie.
Prosecutors indicated they will seek the death penalty.
Defense and prosecution attorneys said it will be difficult to find unbiased jury because of the extent of the media coverage.
The defense filed several motions, including one seeking a change of venue , to try to compensate for the "unrelenting" news coverage.
In April, Arapahoe County Judge denied Holmes' attorneys request to videotape jury selection. The defense claimed that filming jury selection would help "eliminate any potential for disagreement between the parties about interpretations of a juror's demeanor."
Samour said in a February hearing that he expects to send out approximately 6,000 jury summons this summer before the trial.
The jury selection hearing is set for Thursday morning.
The trial is to begin on Oct. 14.
