Jury Deadlocked in Dodgers’ Beating Case

LOS ANGELES (CN) - The jury is deadlocked in the negligence case brought by a San Francisco Giants baseball fan who was brutally beaten outside Los Angeles Dodgers stadium, the Superior Court announced Wednesday afternoon.

In March 2011, Louie Sanchez and Marvin Norwood beat Giant's baseball fan Bryan Stow, a paramedic, in the parking lot of the Dodgers stadium, where he had gone to watch his team play their rivals in a home opener.

Sanchez, 31, pleaded guilty this year to felony mayhem and was sentenced to 8 years in prison. Norwood, 32, pleaded guilty to assault and was sentenced to 4 years.

Stow survived but the attack left him in with brain damage and in a wheelchair. In May 2011, his family sued former Dodgers owner and businessman Frank McCourt and Los Angeles Dodgers LLC in state court for negligence, claiming that better security at the stadium could have prevented the attack.

The Los Angeles Superior Court Information Office said in a statement Wednesday:

"The jurors in the matter of Bryan Stow v. L.A. Dodgers have announced that they are having difficulty reaching a verdict. They were instructed to return to the jury room and continue deliberations."

The case is in its fifth day of deliberations. The jury has yet to answer a single question on the verdict form, Los Angeles City News Service reported Wednesday.

Judge Victor Chavez is presiding over the case. Stow's family wants $36 million in damages, and punitive damages.
