Judge-TV Star Alleges Defamation on Web

DALLAS (CN) - Former Dallas County judge and TV personality Catherine Crier claims an unknown Internet user knowingly added false and defamatory information to her Wikipedia page.

Wikipedia is a free, widely used online encyclopedia to which any Internet user can add or delete information about entries.

On Crier's Wikipedia page, the unknown user falsely stated she had been suspected of murder, committed shoplifting, and had been jailed and disbarred. Crier says all of that is untrue.

And she claims that the unknown user copied a Nov. 26, 2007, Dallas Morning News article about disbarred attorney Catherine Shelton, changing the last name in the article to Crier and then posting it.

Crier has anchored The Crier Report for Fox News Channel, Catherine Crier Live for Court TV and political programs for CNN, in addition to corresponding for ABC News. Before her career in television, she served as an assistant district attorney for Dallas County and was elected judge of the 161st District Court in Dallas County in 1984.

Crier says she has been harassed by others who have read the page, has been embarrassed and humiliated and suffered anxiety. She seeks damages for lost wages, emotional distress and mental anguish. She is represented in Dallas County Court by Joe Kendall.
