Judge Tosses Claims Against Cop

BELLEVILLE, Ill. (CN) - A judge dismissed a lawsuit against a police officer for a fatal wreck that killed two sisters. Officer Matt Mitchell allegedly was driving his patrol car more than 100 mph in November 2007 when he lost control and slammed into a car carrying teen-age sisters Jessica and Kelli Uhl, both of whom died at the scene.

An Arkansas couple, Christine and Kelly Marler, who also were involved in the accident, sued in St. Clair County, but a judge dismissed the suit, finding that Mitchell had immunity because of his job.

Mitchell has pleaded not guilty to charges of reckless homicide and reckless driving.
