Judge Orders Gawker to|Pull Leaks of Palin’s Book

(CN) - A federal judge in Manhattan ordered the media blog Gawker to take down leaked pages of Sarah Palin's new book, which is not scheduled for publication until Tuesday.

U.S. District Judge Thomas Griesa on Saturday wrote that Gawker Media "is temporarily restrained and enjoined from continuing to distribute, publish or otherwise transmit pages of the book" pending a hearing on Nov. 30.

HarperCollins said Gawker got an advance copy, or pages, of Palin's "America by Heart: Reflections on Family, Faith and Flag" on Nov. 17 and posted "exact copies of 21 full pages of the book to its website under the title 'Sarah Palin's New Book: Leaked Excerpts.'"

In an ironic intro to the disputed posting, HarperCollins said Gawker introduced the pages by claiming that in the book, "the reality TV matriarch rants against 'talent deprived' reality TV stars, lauds daughter Bristol's chastity, and celebrates not aborting Trig."

Palin's daughter recently achieved another 15 minutes of Warholish fame by advancing to the next round on a "reality" TV dancing show, thanks to popular vote, though professional dancers said that the couple Bristol and her partner defeated were better dancers.

In response to the leak, Palin tweeted, "The publishing world is LEAKING out-of-context excerpts of my book w/o my permission. Isn't that illegal?"

"America by Heart" has a publication date of Dec. 1 but will be released Tuesday, Nov. 23, according to the publisher's federal copyright complaint.

Gawker posted a link to the injunction in an article titled "Sarah Palin Is Mad at Us for Leaking Pages From Her Book."
