Judge Nominated to Arizona Federal Bench

(CN) - President Obama nominated Santa Cruz County (Ariz.) Superior Court Judge James Soto to the federal bench of the District of Arizona.

Soto, 53, has served on the Santa Cruz Superior Court bench since 2001 and is its presiding judge. The county seat is Nogales.

Soto was in private practice from 1975 until 2001. A native of Nogales, he got a bachelor's degree from Arizona State in 1971 and his J.D. from the ASU Law School in 1975.

If confirmed by the Senate, he will take the seat vacated a year ago by Judge David Bury, who has assumed senior status.
