Judge Nixes Katrina Suit Against Engineer Corps

NEW ORLEANS (CN) - A federal judge has dismissed a class action filed by Hurricane Katrina victims who blamed the Army Corps of Engineers for last year's levee breaches that flooded the city. U.S. District Judge Stanwood Duval Jr. criticized the corps' "gross incompetence," but said the Flood Control Act of 1928 grants immunity to the government in the event of levee failure.
