OAKLAND (CN) - An Alameda County judge has barred 15 suspected members of the North Side Oakland gang from associating within a 100-block "safety zone" in the city.
In granting the preliminary injunction requested by city attorney John Russo, Superior Court Judge Robert Freedman wrote, "The injunction is intended to protect the safety of the general community by abating the public nuisance caused by the gang and its members."
The 15 alleged gang members are now forbidden from possessing drugs, guns or graffiti tools; loitering; harassing and intimidating witnesses against the gang; or trolling for new recruits within the zone. They are also subject to a curfew from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Russo also requested an injunction against suspected gang members not included in Freedman's order, so Freedman has decided to hold further hearings on the injunction every four to six months to determine whether the prohibitions should extend to others.
