Judge Gets Extension On Disciplinary Hearing

LAS VEGAS (CN) - Judge Elizabeth Halverson got a 30-day extension in her dismissal hearing while she remains hospitalized after her husband allegedly beat her with a frying pan.

The Judicial Discipline Commission on Thursday approved the extension to allow attorneys to file written arguments by Sept. 30.

Halverson recently endured a weeklong hearing on accusations that she fell asleep on the bench, abused her staff and improperly communicated with jurors.

Halverson was suspended a year after winning her seat in 2006. She lost her re-election bid in the August primary. Her term ends in December.

On Wednesday, bail was set at $113,000 for her husband, Edward Halverson, who faces charges of attempted murder and battery with a deadly weapon for allegedly beating his wife with a frying pan last week.

The judge suffered a fractured skull, but is expected to recover.
